As a third-generation owner, Dobbs Ackermann has led Ackermann Group as an influential property management and development leader since 1997. Building on the regional success of his father, Tom Ackermann, and his grandfather, Rudolph Ackermann, an opportunistic Dobbs set out to focus the business around one primary goal: to serve the community in a positive way by leaving a lasting impact on the physical landscape of the region.
Founded in 1938 by Rudolph Ackermann, Ackermann Group began constructing single-family homes and four-family apartment buildings. Later, under the direction of Tom Ackermann, the company established a reputation in the region as a considerate, results-driven construction, management and development company. By 1997, when Dobbs took over the business, the company had its hand in all facets of real estate services, including construction of everything from single-family homes to office buildings to churches; land development; and property management.
With this goal in mind, Ackermann Group focused operations on two core components of the business: real estate development and property management. Eventually, Ackermann Group added investment as a third component to support development and property acquisition. With the core directives in mind, Ackermann Group grew by entering the niche urban infill and redevelopment market and continued to operate the residential management division to provide the financial stability needed to see the company succeed.

Qualified by years of construction and development, Ackermann Group quickly became a regional leader for urban infill and redevelopment. Determined to leave a positive and lasting impact, Ackermann Group acts as a facilitator for communities to achieve their development and redevelopment goals. Guided by the principles of the Urban Land Institute, Ackermann Group has developed multi-family residential, condominiums, office, retail and student housing. Through urban infill and redevelopment, Ackermann Group has mastered the use of public funds to finance projects including tax increment financing, new market tax credits, state grants and local and state tax abatement.

Driven to make a positive impact in the region, Ackermann Group grew the multi-family residential management division into an essential part of the company. Today, residential management accounts for a majority of the company’s business with communities chosen using specific, selective criteria with a focus on stable communities in stable markets. Since 1997, Ackermann Group has invested in assets in Cincinnati, Charlotte, Columbus, Dayton, Indianapolis and Northern Kentucky.
